I wrote this one about drunk driving shortly after a friend of a friend got killed in a drunk driving accident several years ago.    He was only 18 at the time....

Drinking Driving

Let's have another! stop, what for?

"One more for the road" but the road took one more

You chose to drive when you knew you'd had too much

But what do you care? You're not hurt as such

Driving like a madman, too much alcohol in the blood

Speeding, racing, careering round the bends, suddenly, crash thud,

You took the bend wide, cut right across his path

vehicles crashing, glass smashing, you've caused a bloodbath

A car and a motorbike caught in a morbid dance

You've escaped out alive, but he didn't get that chance

You took the wheel you couldn't care less

Driving too fast, now look at the mess

That you have caused, all these lives torn apart

I just hope you're sorry, that you have a heart

You thought you could drive in your drunkenness

A life cut short by your carelessness

I hope you understand that he was too young to die

I hope you now see the reason why

They say the one who is driving shouldn't drink

Perhaps now next time you've had too many you will think

I hope you realise that you shouldn't drink and drive

But it shouldn't be you the one that's still alive.
